Apart from being the state of mango, it is also known in the world as a district with natural beauty and cleanliness. Rajshahi is also called the vegetable bank due to the surplus of all types of vegetables. Rajshahi's soil has special qualities in producing almost all types of fruits and crops. At the same time, the highest production of betel leaves in the country is in Rajshahi. Rajshahi is also called the city of silk.
History of Rajshahi
Rajshahi is a city surrounded by ancient heritage of Bengal. This city was known in ancient Bengal for many years.
Rajshahi was part of the Pundra Empire of ancient Bengal. The capital of the famous Sena dynasty king Vijay Sen was located just 9 km away from the present Rajshahi city. In the Middle Ages, the present Rajshahi was known as Rampur Boalia. Based on these sources, a police station in Rajshahi city is still called Boalia.
A district was formed in 1772 around Rajshahi city. Rajshahi Municipality was formed in 1876. Later, it was converted into Rajshahi City Corporation in 1991.
Rajshahi was also known as Boalia during the British Raj. At that time, it was the administrative center of Rajshahi district, which was part of the then East Bengal and present (India) Assam region. Rajshahi was selected as the main center for silk cultivation at that time. At that time, a government college and an educational institution for the silk industry were established in Rajshahi. Rajshahi was located on the banks of the Padma River, and from that time until the partition of the country, passenger steamers used to ply daily on the Padma River.

Rajshahi is located in the west of Bangladesh. Rajshahi district is bordered by Naogaon district to the north, Kushtia district to the south, Padma river and West Bengal of India, Natore district to the east, and Chapainawabganj district to the west. The main river of the country, Padma, enters Bangladesh from India through the border of this district. The total area of this district is 2407.01 square kilometers. It occupies the most beautiful place in the country's location. Currently, Rajshahi is being reported internationally for its beautiful environment.

Rajshahi is one of the most traditional ancient cities of Bangladesh located on the banks of the Padma River. Rajshahi is famous for its mangoes and silk fabrics, as well as for tourism. This city of Rajshahi, which is rich in the history of ancient Bengal, has famous mosques, temples and historical structures. Popular tourist destinations of this city on the banks of the Padma include Bagha Mosque, Puthia Rajbari, Padma Par, Barendra Research Museum, Rajshahi University, Shishu Park, Hawakhana, Padma Garden, Zoo, etc.
1. T Dam, Rajshahi
The ‘T-Badh’ (T Badh) located on the banks of the Padma River in Rajshahi is not just a defensive dam; it is a unique meeting point of history, culture and nature of the city of Rajshahi. This dam, shaped like the English letter “T”, plays an important role in preventing river erosion, as well as being known as a popular tourist destination.

2.Padma Garden, Rajshahi
Oddvar Munksgaard Park is located on the banks of the Padma River in Rajshahi city. Since it is located on the banks of the Padma River, the park is better known as Padma Garden. Padma Park extends for about one kilometer from Phutkipara in the Barakuti area to Dargapara.
There is an open stage in this park. Various cultural programs are held in this open stage every day. And many small and large restaurants have been built around this park. If you walk west from Padma Garden, you will find the shrine of Hazrat Shah Makhdum (RA), and if you cross the shrine and go a little further, you will see the Rabindra Mukta Mancha and the BGB-controlled border anchor has been built next to it. All these establishments have been built on the banks of the Padma. Being a nature-friendly park with green shade, the park has already been able to attract the attention of all visitors.
3. Rajshahi College
Rajshahi College is one of the oldest and most traditional educational institutions in Bangladesh, which was established in 1873.
This college has played an important role in the history of higher education in the country. Its long history, rich academic environment and glorious success have made Rajshahi College one of the best educational institutions in the country.
4. Bagha Mosque
The historic Bagha Mosque is located about forty kilometers from Rajshahi city. This ancient mosque, made of bricks, has 4 domes around it and a total of 10 domes in two rows in the middle. Except for the 5 doors on the eastern side of the mosque, the doors on the north-south walls have been closed. A lot of burnt clay tablets can be seen inside and outside the Bagha Mosque. There is a special prayer room on the high altar inside the mosque. It is still unknown for whom or for whom this special prayer room was reserved.
5. Puthia Rajbari
Puthia Rajbari is a unique example of eye-catching architecture located in Rajshahi. Puthia Rajbari is located 30 kilometers from the Rajshahi divisional city and just 1 kilometer from the Rajshahi-Nator highway. There is a lion door on the north side to enter the two-story Puthia Rajbari, which has many rooms. The landlords or kings used to conduct their royal affairs from here. Puthia Rajbari was built in the 19th century in Indo-European architecture. Currently, Puthia Rajbari, which is under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology, is being used as Laskarpur Degree College.
6. Varendra Research Museum
Located in the heart of Rajshahi city, Varendra Research Museum is the first museum in Bangladesh. And in terms of archaeological collection, Varendra Museum is one of the best in South Asia.
In 1910, Sarat Kumar Roy, a landlord of Dighapatia in Natore, lawyer Akshay Kumar Moitra, and Ramprasad Chandra, a teacher at Rajshahi Collegiate School, formed the Varendra Research Society to collect and preserve the heritage of Bengal and conducted research at various places and collected 32 rare artifacts. Later, in 1913, Varendra Research Museum started its journey in its own building.
7.Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo
Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo has been developed over 32.76 acres of land on the banks of the Padma, which was once a racecourse ground. The distance from Rajshahi city to the zoo is only 4.2 kilometers. When the construction of Rajshahi Central Zoo began in 1972 near Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Road, a children's park was built here along with the zoo in 1974-76 with the permission of the Revenue Department.
The huge sculpture of a giraffe and the fountain of the fish goddess at the main entrance gate of the zoo are striking. Seeing them, they make the visitors forget their minds. Inside the park, surrounded by the shade of various flowers, fruits and medicinal trees, there are various beautiful sculptures and a small lake with a beautiful bridge. The zoo's notable collection includes various aquatic and terrestrial animals including Bajrika, Balihas, horses, deer, uttar pradesh, pythons, crocodiles and others.
The beauty of the Padma River can be enjoyed from the artificial hills of this park with its beautiful natural environment.
Currently, this children's park has become one of the entertainment centers of Rajshahi city. Apart from local visitors of Rajshahi, students and tourists from various educational institutions gather here every day for educational tours and forest picnics.
